Yankees Jasson Dominguez Set To Make Debut Against Tigers

The New York Yankees were pleased with Jasson Dominguez’s bat swings throughout his first three games.

Now that Dominguez is making his Yankee Stadium debut on Tuesday night in the first game of a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, they are curious to see him take swings for the first time there.

“I think it’s going to be big time,” Dominguez said of his upcoming home debut.

If his first three games this weekend provide any indication, the 20-year-old center fielder won’t find the occasion to be too overwhelming.

During the Yankees’ three-game sweep of the Astros, Dominguez played up to the high expectations that had been placed on him by slamming two home runs and collecting a hit in each game.

The Yankees were similarly astounded by how he made it seem, even if generating some early results is usually crucial to helping any rookie feel a bit more at home in the big leagues.

The Yankees have just finished a 7-3 road trip that took them through Houston, Detroit, and Tampa. After New York went 3-12 and fell below.500, they embarked on one of their finest runs of the year, which coincided with Dominguez getting promoted from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

In the nine games he played while in Triple-A, Dominguez batted 419 (13-for-31), racked up 10 RBI, and had an OPS of 1.094. He smashed a two-run home run in his first professional at-bat on Friday against Houston. The 20-year-old made a crucial contribution with a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning of Sunday’s 6-1 victory.

“He’s lived up to every ounce of hype that I’ve heard,” New York pitcher Michael King said. “I heard he was otherworldly and he comes out here and just dominates.”

“He’s comfortable,” manager Aaron Boone said Sunday night before the Yankees flew home after a 10-game road trip. “When he goes up to the plate, there’s not a lot of anxiety. He plays the game with ease. Obviously, the skill set jumps off the page at you.”

The Yankees have made an effort to make Dominguez and Wells feel at home in the clubhouse during their first few days in the major leagues, but both players came in with an instinctive, calm confidence.

While Dominguez has made it clear when he enters the batter’s box, Wells has demonstrated it in his efforts behind the plate.

Jasson Dominguez, a switch-hitter, will make his Bronx debut beginning with Tuesday night’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers, giving him a chance to further win over the crowd while vying for the starting center field position in 2024.
